A Sports rating is an advance qualification taken on by individual pilots. With this rating, you can fly advanced sites like Signal Hill, Bains Kloof and even Table Mountain. A sports pilot needs a comprehensive understanding of navigation, airspace, micro-meteorology, airflow, air law, glider structure, aerodynamics, and airmanship to name a few.

As a Sports pilot, you have more responsibility in the greater paragliding community. You should have a thorough knowledge of your local flying sites and be well equipped to brief other pilots and lead by showing safe decision-making skills.

One of the most important aspects of becoming Sports rated is experience, which takes time. Flying regularly on your own to increase your confidence, flights, and hours is necessary to become sports rated.

Barry has assisted many of his students through their Sports rating and further and would be happy to teach you too.
