Table Mountain flight

March 9th, 2010 Posted in Uncategorized

After a late start and trying to decide where to fly, today Tuesday, we went to Signal hill, but when we got there it was quite lite wind and a little side on. After watching a few Tandems launching and pritty much going down, I looked at Table Mountain, and it looked promising. The look on the group faces, you serious and big yes, lets go.

After puchasing our tickets, we had a very scenic ride with the revolving gondelar, watching our altitude getting higher and higher. The top is 1067m asl, getting out of the cable station it looked like the north face was working as we saw good thermal towering above the top, but it was also coming up light thermic from the SW side. We looked at the North but no wind on the edge, back to the SW side it was much better. Doing a detailed breifing we lay out, first the Sweed, John Eriksson, then Mike Riley from Switzerland then myself the lacal in Cape Town. With Ed lower air time pilot not flying, hold some toilet paper as a streamer, good thermic cycles every few minutes, all very clean launches. Flying away from launch, out onto the cliffs on Table Mountain, the camera’s we going, clicking, like a rapid machine gun. We flew out over to Lion’s Head then over the sea and evenualy landed at Le Med, with a cellebratory beer waiting for us on landing.
