Overberg club fly away Pampoenfontein
May 4th, 2010 Posted in UncategorizedWe had a very successful fly away to Pampoenfontein in the Porterville area, we had approx 35 pilots attend and the weather was good both days. Saturday we started fairly early as to get the low air time students their first flights from this height, in light but good conditions. Most students managed to get in 3 flights and the last one was over a hour, thermaling above launch approx 150 meters, therefore being 950 meters asl and being able to look back into the Cederberg mountain which are very spectacular.
The newly qualified and more experienced pilots doing some XC, and some guys their fist ever. Well done to Tom, Roland and Mark, Tom who has done this flight once before, flew with Roland and Mark. These guys reaching Rhenosterhoek 52km flight on their first ever XC , Well done guys. Now the bug has bit big time. Fun was had by all.
This day was ended with a braai at our cottage, with lots of beers, Brandy and cokes and big stories of the days flying. It was a awesome sun set and the star later on, lite up the skies, what a sight. Southern cross, Milky way, and a few shooting star lighting up the skies. The jokes stories and laughter went on to early hours of the morning, but the next day a few lasy bodies and pounding heads.
Sunday was as good flying, first the students took to the skies and were able to stay up from early, having a ball. Then the masses followed. Some going North and others flying to the south and landing near Porterville. A great weekend of flying.
