Flying in Kakamas near Upington
May 4th, 2010 Posted in UncategorizedWe were invited to fly Paramotors in the desert area, place called Keimas between Kakamas and Upington, very different flying conditions as the winds pick up fairly quickly, as the sun rises and the thermal activity starts to work the wind blows the entire day and possibly drops just before sunset. We were doing some photographic work.
We had quite allot of time between flying waiting for the winds to die and conditions to be safe and the lighting to be correct. So Candice and I had time to ourselves doing site seeing and quality time. The landscapse are awesome and streaches on for ever, just small rolling hills, the skies being filled with thermic clouds during the day, very good XC free flying conditions.
We flew at sunrise and sunset before the wind picked up, getting in some fantastic footage, I was carrying the camera man on my Tandem, some times active flying while he was shooting the subject. The wind picked quickly at altitude and it wasn’t long we were going backwards at about 10km/hr, but we got the shot. On landing the wind was still fairly light, but it wasn’t long before it was too strong to launch again.
I’m waiting for some more pictures, we all had a great time, now it was time to drive back to Cape Town, 10hour drive. The roads are pretty straight and go on for miles, lots and lots of nothing , but good Xc skies.
